The Monroe County Clerk of Court is among of the other four county-wide elected officials. It acts as an agent for the state and for the federal government as well.
There are many duties associated with the County Clerk; the office of the County Clerk usually interacts in almost every member of the community. If you need to have a deed copy to your home then you must go to this office. If you want notarization for your legal documents and even some questions about some court records or even registering a hand gun, then you need to see the Clerk of Court. If you are about to renew you driver's license, travel outside the United States or to start a new business, you need to go to the Clerk of Court's Office. Currently, the Monroe Clerk of Court is Cheryl Dinolfo. Chery Dinolfo is the 37th person to become a Clerk of Court in Monroe County. The first was Nathaniel Rochester who had took the office as the Clerk of Court of the Monroe County in 1891 following the creation of the Monroe County.
The Office of the County Clerk is responsible for the different duties such as County registrar. This office serves as the official registrar for the deeds, mortgages, assignments and satisfactions or mortgages judgments as well as liens. By this duty, the county Clerk is the authority of the indexing as well as preserving the said documents.
The office also serves as the Clerk of the Supreme Courts thus, the office is responsible for the maintenance of the court files as well as the civil and the criminal matters respectively
The office of the Clerk of Court also serves in some other functions such as serving as a chief notary, passport acceptance agency, pistol permit acceptance agency, registrar of assumed business name, naturalization registrar, sport license agency, motor vehicle agency and several others.
