Monroe County Court Of Clerk
|
The Monroe County Court of Clerk has offices located in the cities of Key West, Marathon, and Plantation Key. Depending on your needs, each courthouse is able to serve a specific area of the county. Civil proceedings, criminal matters, public records, tax assessments, property assessors and tax sale information can be located here. While some information may also be available online, sometimes talking to one of the Monroe County Court of Clerk employees will have the knowledge needed to answer complex questions. If you have been sequestered to a jury or named as a defendant in a criminal or civil case, you will be required to show up at the date and time specified. You will be required to show identification before entering the courthouse, and you must comply with all of their guidelines. Having a cell phone, camera or other electronic communication devices will not be permissible in the courtroom. Public records such as tax liens, deeds and marriage records will also be available for viewing at the courthouse. While viewing them is free, if you want to have any pages printed you will have to pay a nominal fee per page. Depending on the method of recording used, a computer, book or microfiche will have to be searched for before located. Courthouse clerks will be readily available to assist you, but not all will be willing to help you with complicated or long projects. Take the time to learn how to use a particular method before partaking in any heavy research. The Tax Assessor Office will have a listing of upcoming tax sales. These tax sales are auctions where property is sold when the taxes have no been paid over a long period of time. Parties interested in purchasing property will be given a location to visit at a specific date and time. Many times, they will need to have a certified check made out prior to participating. This is to keep those who do not have the funds for purchase from attempting to stall an actual sale. Once bidding has concluded, the buy will have to pay the entire cost before claiming the property. Tax sales always start at a price which is equal to the amount owed in delinquent taxes. |
